Why can we no longer edit if an item is taxable and non-taxable via CSV anymore? The "new" square dashboard no longer supports this. Can anyone help? I called support and they have no idea what they are talking about. They said you can still do it and clearly i can't. When i export all items it doesn't even show a column for sales tax anymore. I have over 1800 items and can't use the item's tab to edit because there are more than 250 SKU's that need edited.
Hi @ExoticSnaxx.. So I downloaded my item catalog a few months ago (April 2025?) and at that time there was no sales tax column. So I went scouting and found something that might work. But, first, are you just trying to mark a list of items/variations as non-taxable, or is it more complicated than that?
I just Downloaded my Items CSV file from Square (6-6-2025) and it does have my Taxable column listed
Tax - Pa Sales Tax (6%) |
in Column AO and in this column you either put Y for yes for sales Tax or N for No sales Tax.
If you need other sales tax amounts you may have to create the Sales Tax in Settings from a Computer. Then you may have Tax - Pa Sales Tax 6% like in my above box, or another column showing Tax - Pa Clothes Tax of 2% if your state has a Different Tax for Clothing vs other items. Do you have a Screen shot of what your seeing?

He’ll @_Violet our item exports are no longer showing tax column on CSV files. I called square. They never found a fix. This is a huge problem for use having 1800 items and only certain items are taxable. Can you help?
I appreciate the input. However the new square dashboard exports from the item list no longe that this sales tax column. There is actually a lot of columns that are no longer displayed.
How are you trying to download the Catalog CSV file?
On a Computer I goto https://app.squareup.com/dashboard/
Then choose Items & Services
Then Items
Then items Library
Which should get you here on a computer https://app.squareup.com/dashboard/items/library
When on this screen I choose Action (in the Right)
Then choose Export Library.... Then I can choose CSV or Excel.... I chose CSV yesterday and in column AO it showed my Tax column.

When you say it no longer exsists, are you exporting your csv file some other way or through an app?
@Candlestore I just downloaded my Item Catalog in CSV format.... There is no sales tax column today... This is why I absolutely hate Square-formatted CSVs... They keep changing them and then denying they changed them. Or not caring. You pick.
I downloaded the csv file yesterday and about 30 minutes after I saw your post here, both files have the Tax column. Now I do agree that Square does modify or change formatting on the CSV files as I have shown in other posts but I am wondering if its more when they are working on files and this is when they get downloaded by users ?!?!? Square should not be changing settings on LIVE data or downloads that us users use or export!!! I have over 12,000 items and do not like doing downloads repeatedly to see when a column reappears just to find out another column is gone.
@Candlestore I’m curious. Have you downloaded it today? If so, is the sales tax column there for you? If it is, the Hopefully @_Violet can enlighten us as to why I get one result and you get another? That should NEVER happen.
How do I confirm which Dashboard I am using when I am on a Computer through Chrome? Doesn't it open the Same Square Dashboard? Mine does look different than before but not sure if it is the old or new version.
I just go to my Square Dashboards Signin here : https://app.squareup.com/dashboard/ on my pc through Chrome Browser. Now is this different than the Dashboard App on a Tablet which Square was pushing.... ???? Why wouldn't they be the same.... inconsistancies with Square is all I can see.
I downloaded catalogs for the last 3 days and all 3 have the AO column for Tax in it. Here is for today:
As you can see in the File name the date of Download here is 2025-06-08.
Why they are different I am not sure of. Just like last week I deleted a few SKU Codes I created to get the Shorter ones Square generates and it worked fine, today I do the same steps and Square states all Items and Variations have SKUs. I am trying to delete all my SKUs that were 20 - 30 Characters long to have Smaller (shorter) Barcodes for scanning. Things keep changing in Square in the background but no news of these changes or why?
UPDATE on SKU problem:
Since I downloaded my catalog the last 3 days, I removed the SKU's that I created then imported them to Square and was able to have Square Create SKUs then. The problem only seems to be if I delete a SKU from the Square Dashboard and Square will then not create a New SKU for an Item that had a previous SKU.
Can you confirm that you are using the old Square Dashboard and not the new square dashboard that they are currently trying to push out to everyone.
Still no Tax Column. Something is really messed up and support has no idea how to fix and claims there isnt an issue.

I have tried exporting only some items, all items, CSV, excel, literally everthing. I have another account that i have had for over 5 years and the export works perfectly fine. We only have issues with this account because it is on the new square dashboard and not the old one. You also can't switch to the old dashboard on a new account... only old accounts. Square needs to fix this asap because i can't manually adjust taxes on 1800 items. I dont have the time to do this.
Still no help anywhere on this and square has no idea how to fix it. What is going on with square... they are really going downhill fast.
