Options unavailable to generate sku

I have been trying to generate sku's for my items in square. I have tried to make a new item and tried on existing  items. I do not have the option to "generate sku" at all. Anyone else have this issue? Square support has not been incredibly helpful.

Since you are saying this option is not available to you, and you did not state which Square POS system you are using, I am assuming just the Square POS and Not Square for Retail.  To auto generate a SKU you need Square for Retail POS, either the Free or Paid version.  You can see that information in this link:

I have been using Square POS for 5 years now. I guess I do not know if it is the correct one. We are a clothing/retail store and are able to create new items and have variations and such. We have just never been able to generate a sku that connects to Square. I just Googled "what type of square system am I using?" to see if it would take me through the steps to find that out... and nothing.

The two times I have been on the phone with customer service, they have not ONCE asked about the system we use! Therefore, they have been unable to solve this issue.

Do you know what Hardware you are using to check people out, Register, Square Stand, Ipad, Android etc?

If you press the 'More' Button at the bottom of your checkout device and then choose Support and Learning.... at least that is what it is for me on my Ipad in a Square Stand.  I see Square for Retail.
