Item EXPORT only includes default vendor.

I'm trying to figure out how to export my square inventory master list to an excel spreadsheet, then send it out to quote to multiple vendors, get quotes added back into the spreadsheet and then re-import it. Unfortunately it seems that not all of each items categories are exported.

For instance, a critical one when trying to know which vendors to send an item out to quote for. I've got an item that has a default vendor and a secondary vendor listed and each have their own prices in Square. Unfortunately when I export the library only the default vendor shows up in the spreadsheet.

I have seen other posts requesting export options to allow users to pick any existing category that exists within an item....this seems like a no brainer and I don't see how this would be a challenging task for any experienced software engineer. Without exporting all of the data i am concerned that i will lose valuable information when trying to import/export item lists.

BTW....maybe someone knows a better way to get price updates from vendor quotes into the item list....I am ALL ears! Just trying to get the inventory stuff working at our hardware store for the first time really.

Cheers,

Joe

Since I see this is your first post welcome to the sellers community.

Now since you have figured out how to export your Items list (Square Catalog), the easiest thing to do would be to remove columns you do not want to forward to other vendors.  Like the vendor codes, your cost, other vendor names.  Now since you mention using Excel you can actually set this up with power query 1 time to remove columns from Catalog.csv  so the next time you have to do this you can just refresh the new catalog export and it will just list the items as you have prepared them for an CSV.file to send to get new quotes.  Here is a Video showing how this works Power BI to remove Columns .

Now this is shown on MS Excel 365 online and not in the Desktop, but it is basically the same on the Desktop version.  Power Query is the name for Desktop and Power BI is for Online.  Just google video on which version you use if you need help with this.

Got an Idea that I have been think of since seeing this question.

Create an Item called Dog Food

Create a Variation of the Same item but Have variation slightly different by Vendor Code or something.

Then let Square create a UPC for scanning.  Each Variation will get a UPC code and each Variation can have a Different Vendor.  Now Your Variation is basically something to ID your vendor that would not be know to the Public.  This would appear on a Receipt and then I think you can add different Unit costs and I think you should be able to select the Item by the Vendor when reordering.  This should list your Item Dogfood, Dogfood  Variation 1 Vendor 1, Dogfood Variation 2 Vendor 2 etc.

I am just guessing here as most of my vendors have me call in or log in to order Wholesale pricing from their Website so I do not email a PO to my vendors.  So I am not good with creating an API either.  I know you can download all your vendors from your Square Dashboard on a computer.  Now each Vendor would be in a Variation and Still only show as a Default Vendor for that variation.  Would that work for you?

Sadly no, I am looking to automate processes and everything square has available to me is not working the way I want. API is my only option but sadly I am one man and an AI - not enough to get everything easily but i am making progress and have now an automated catalog export for my google merchant account

Can you automate to pull the Default Vendor?

Then having each Variation can have a different Vendor (Default Vendor) in a csv which should be able to be pulled from.   I would try what your doing to first Pull the Default vendor then we will look into pulling the secondary vendor.

Good luck and wish I was able to do all this AI stuff and API programs since I am basically a one man show right now, besides Excels Power Query.

Looks like vendor information is not available from the API even remotely close to what i want, i believe we have no hope of seeing it as 6000 views and several years of Square replying "we appriecate your feedback and are always looking for ways to improve..."

I've just decided to manually update vendor information for now but its not a fun time....
