Is there a lay-by option in square register?

I am a new retail store and had a customer request to do a lay-by. I could not find that option available in the square register. Can anyone help?

We see this question come up often in the Square Community! While Square doesn’t currently offer a native lay-by feature in our Point of Sale system, we do offer Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) options through Afterpay.

With Afterpay, your customers can pay for their purchases in four interest-free instalments over six weeks, while you, the Seller, receive the full payment upfront, no waiting required.

How do you know when someone is using afterpay so the fees can be charged to the customer?

Good question, @MarionBurton!

According to Afterpay's Merchant Terms, Sellers are not permitted to add a surcharge specifically for customers using Afterpay. You can keep any automatic surcharges you've already set up through Square, but you can’t manually apply an extra fee just for Afterpay transactions.

This is definitely something to consider carefully before enabling Afterpay on your Square account.
