How to use the 'Sub' conversational modifier?

I am trying to use conversational modifiers. I guessed that 'sub' meant to swap an option. But this doesn't seem to work and charges for the modifier which I thought would only happen with 'add' and 'extra'.

Am I doing something wrong?

Hey @Twiddy, thank you for flagging this.

Yeah, I would have thought the same as you, that sub would mean that it would be replaced. Would you mind sending me a screenshot or a video recording of what is happening on the screen? This will give me a better idea of where the issue may be coming from. Thanks!

Hi @Twiddy, just stepping in for Skyler here and thanks for the video!!

So I did some digging and I believe the reason this may be happening is if your sub-item/modifier has a price associated with it. If you want your customers to substitute an item without getting charged you would need to create an additional modifier without a zero price that is used only for substitutions.

However, I am reaching out to our Restaurants team directly for confirmation on this, thanks for your patience 🙂

Thanks for the response and I await your confirmation from the restaurant team.

However the sub button should really remove the price as doing this ourselves makes the use of the button pointless as we may as well call the modifier 'sub-item'. Plus the add and extra buttons wouldn't add a price when selecting a zero rated item.

This functionality just seems a little broken and useless if we need to have additional modifiers without prices as we are essentially building the conversation ourselves through different modifier sets.

Hi @Twiddy, just looping back to confirm this is intended behaviour with the sub feature. I agree that it doesn't make a whole load of sense and have passed the feedback on to the Restaurants team.

If you have time, please head over to our Square for Restaurants Ideate board and flag that this is a feature you would like to see. That way our team will know there is an interest and need for it.

Thanks again.
