How do I rearrange the items order on the POS?

Hi, I'd like to know how can I rearrange the order of the items listed under a certain category on my POS. I went on the website and I noticed this: "Manage how items are displayed to customers on your online sites. Items in Point of Sale are organized alphabetically". Does that mean it's not actually possible to organize the items? I hope there is a way because I can't believe a system like Square wouldn't allow such a simple task.

Hi @Ale88 !

 

I'm hoping that youa referring to a POS type of menu, as yes, it is possible to reorder the items.  

 

If you go to ITEMS>MENUS and then select the menu you want to re-order, when you go into the category of items, you should see something similar to this;

Follow the instructions on what I have written in red (as well as select the 6-dot symbol) and you should be able to move the item up and down, which will then impact your online menu.   You will need to "REPUBLISH" your online menu to have the changes take effect.

If you go to ONLINE>WEBSITES then "WEBISTE>EDIT SITE", you should see the "publish" button in the upper right corner, like this @Ale88

Thanks again but I must admit that I'm lost at this point. Maybe I didn't explain myself properly: I want to reorganize the items on my iPad POS because right now they are automatically alphabetically organized and it's a problem.

 

I don't have a Square website, I don't sell online, only in store, so when I go to the website section there are no categories, no items, nothing.

 

I did what you said, I went to "Items & services", then "Menus", entered my menu and I reorganized the items. And those are the same ones I see on the iPad, so that's ok.

After that I went to the Website section, Edit (but as I explained there is no website, so no menu here) and I clicked Publish, but in the iPad app I still see all the items alphabetically organized.

 

I just don't understand what the website has to do with the way I want to organize items in the iPad POS 😅

Hey @Ale88 .   The website portion isn't required to change the order in POS.  You can also go to "POS Layout" to change what the buttons look like on POS.  I only provided the information about the website based on your original post, as the "Manage how items are displayed to customers on your online sites" made me think you were trying to reorganize the "item card" order on the website.    Yeah, you don't have to do the last part then since you don't have a website with online ordering.

So I clicked on "Edit POS layout" and I get this message:

To get started

Head to your point of sale device and add Full service, Quick service, or Bar mode.

 

I did a research and I found that "If you’ve logged in before, modes are located in the More > Settings portion of the Square POS app." (link), I understand how to get there but I don't see any Mode option or whatever is supposed to be called.

 

I also found this other article (link) that explains this:

  1. Open your point of sale app and tap ≡ More > Settings choose the current mode.
  2. Tap Create a new mode or the (+) icon.

But I don't see any + icon. This thing is driving me crazy, it's supposed to be extremely easy I can't find any of the things I'm reading about.

 

If it helps, I am currently using an iPad with iOs 16.7.12 and Square app version 6.86.3so.
