Hiding modifiers from the terminal that are sold out

We run an ice cream shop that mixes fresh local fruit into ice cream to order. We have a long list of fruits that we use, and their availability changes frequently. Our terminal is set up with ice cream bases as the Items, and the fruits are Modifiers. 

We flag fruit modifiers as available or sold out in the terminal, but the "sold out" modifiers still show up in the terminal when we're taking an order. The documentation page for Modifiers states:

Marking items or modifiers as sold out will make sure they don't appear as selectable options while checking out.

However, they still show up in checkout flow and are selectable. I'd like the sold out items to not be visible in the terminal so it's quicker to take an order -- otherwise we're scrolling through long lists of unavailable modifiers to find the ones that are available. Is there a global setting to hide all "sold out" modifiers from the checkout flow?

Hello @homegrowncone.. That is not possible with Square, currently.  So, first things first, you need to submit a feature request here.  When you do, please come back here an post a reply with the link to that.  I, for one, will upvote/support that with my comments.  It's a worthy feature.

As for a possible, but imperfect, workaround..... for now, your easiest "fix" is to drag all of the available modifiers to the top of the list, and leave the out-of-stock ones at the bottom.  That will at least reduce your scrolling.

Hey @homegrowncone, if you haven't seen it yet, you should now be able to hide sold-out modifiers on your Point of Sale! You can read more about the feature as part of our new releases here. 

Just a note: you'll need to enable this from your Square Dashboard. To do this:

1. Go to Items & services → Items → Modifiers
2. Click on the modifier set you want to update
3. In the Settings section, toggle on "Sort sold-out modifiers last during checkout on the POS"
4. Click Save
