Hello,
Next year, I will be transitioning off square and using my own server etc. Hoorah for growth!
My question is with outstanding gift cards? Do they have to be run through the square system? Is there a way to handle this without irritating a customer?
@TheOpenEye the big question would be are you still going to be using the square api and square doing your payment processing?
If that answer is yes, then I think you would be able to still redeem gift cards. If you are moving away from square as a processor, then you would have to have customers redeem those gift cards before you switch. You have already been paid for those gift cards as the deposit happens when they are sold. But as an accounts payable, they are a liability for your business. You would still owe those customers the value of the gift card back to you.
hope this helps,
Donnie-M
It does. Maybe there is a version of square that takes them that does not cost me $60 a month and I can just run them through that. I will be moving off of square.
There is a version of Square you can use for Free that can use Gift cards, Its the Square for Retail (free) version. You would need a way to Swipe the Gift cards still. You also would have to keep your Square Account until all the Gift Cards are used. Not sure if Square may stop you from accessing your Gift Cards if you have no other transactions. Since it sounds like you have Square for Retail paid version, you should be able to down grade it to the Free version.
Good point. I have some services I could run through the free ap to keep it active. Thank you for your insight.
Just make sure it is the Free Retail app and not the Free Square POS app.... there are slight differences and Gift Cards is one of them.
