Finding customers that purchased a product

We just had a product recall, and would like to e-mail the customers who have purchased it. I know you can show transaction receipts with customer info, but is there a way to search for just those receipts that have a particular item on it?

@tberry668 Sorry to hear about the recall.  I hope that gets sorted quickly and satisfactorily for you.

There is a way to do what you want, but there is no standard Square Report that will do it.  The basic steps are these:

  1. Run the Item Sales Report from your online dashboard for the needed period.  Use the “Filter by” option to filter the report for the item in question.
  2. Export the Detail CSV.
  3. Go to your customer directory and export your customer list CSV.
  4. Import both of these CSVs into a spreadsheet, link them on customer ID and create a report that you can use to identify customers that need to be contacted.

Note that if customers paid in cash they might not have contact information or even a name.  This will not be perfect.  Hopefully you use Square Marketing and you can also send out an email to snag a few more folks.

I hope that helps.  If you have any questions, let me know.

@tberry668 ;

As with what @TheRealChipA has said there is no easy way to do what you ask.

Now what you could do is go to your Transactions instead of reports.  Select the Date range and then on the far right Export - Items- Details Csv file.  This will have your Items and your customers name in 1 File.  No downloading customer and Items to merge them together.

Then on this csv file if you open in Google Sheets or Excel, in the top ribbon bar there is Insert choose Pivot Table.

Then you would want the Customers name in a row and Filter by Item. And for Row have Customer, Phone, and email.

This will then give you a list of all customers you would need to email or call etc.  2 Problems with this are that if as the RealChipA said if they used cash or they did not sign up to be your customer or signed in for the purchase.  I have customer names that just show up on this as Discover Card Holder or what ever brand card they used.  So if the purchaser of the item has not signed up with a Square seller with that card you may only see Visa Cardholder etc for a name.

I just tested this and it took me less than 5 min to find all customers for this year that bought 5 different items.

I really wish there were an easier way to do this. We FREQUENTLY need lists of customers purchasing specific products. Square, please add this feature!
