Update to Item Library on Dashboard (Jan 2024) FEEDBACK

Not sure if this is the right board for this, but we use Square for Retail to run a small independent bookstore. The most recent update to Item Inventory on Dashboard removed the dropdown category box when entering in a new item by hand. Does anyone else find this INCREDIBLY inconvenient in the workflow of entering product? The extra time it requires to scroll down, find the much smaller input location, check the box and now type out the category you want to add slows down the entire process (and this on the heels of swapping the unit cost and price boxes AND moving "receive stock" further down on the screen). Does this actually increase anyone's productivity in any industry? Before it's suggested, we used to accept our inventory via PO, but as we've increased the vendors we order from, that's become less efficient than entering items individually.

Consider this feedback. These updates slow down workflow efficiency considerably for smaller businesses.

Hi @kewandwillow,

Thanks for reaching out to flag this with us!

I've been testing this on my side and I just want to ensure I'm on the same page with you here. If I understand correctly, the concern is that the updated method for applying item categories requires an extra step of clicking "Select" under the Categorization section to view the Categories List, instead of having the ability to view the list directly by triggering a dropdown menu.

I've attached a screenshot of this for your reference. Is this what you're referring to? If so, I'd be happy to reach out to my team to ask about the option to revert to the previous experience.

Yes! We're retail, so we don't have (or need) the slot in that screenshot for "kitchen facing name" - which is where categories used to be for us. We used to be able to enter the item number into the "auto create" space and then immediately access the category dropdown to choose where it goes. Again, we're a bookstore, so categorizing our product is a huge part of managing our inventory. Now, instead of having access to the categories immediately, as well as the drop down menu which allows for either a rapid scroll or input of the first letter, now we need to scroll down, click to enter the category menu, type in the category, and finally check the box. The predictive category suggestion has never been accurate for us, so unfortunately it does not expedite the process. It doesn't seem like much, but it's still extra steps compared to the previous method.

We would love an option to revert to the previous experience!

Hello @kewandwillow, I am hopping in here to assist. I did reach out to our Retail Team who has stated they are not able to revert the feature back. They will pass this feedback along, and keep looking for ways to streamline this process for all seller types. A change that might be relevant and helpful to point out is that now items can be assigned to more than one category. I am sorry for the inconvenience, and please reach out if you need anything else.
