Epson tm-t20ii keeps printing automatically when on manual.

We've recently reopened under new management, and we keep having issues with the EPSON TM-T20II. We've managed to fix most, however, even when the printer has the receipts on "Manual Only" it is printing them automatically. We even turned printing receipts all the way off, to which it still prints every order, which isn't what we're trying to do. Looked through Square Dashboard, the Square app, even tried looking it up multiple times. I had also read through the manual to see if it would say anything about this issue, but to no avail. Are there any ways to help fix this issue?

Hey there ๐Ÿ‘‹

Congrats on the reopening! ๐ŸŽ‰ And oof, I feel your painโ€”receipt printers can be stubborn little beasts sometimes. The Epson TM-T20II is solid, but when it ignores your settings itโ€™s usually not the printer being sassy, itโ€™s Square overriding it.

Here are a few things to try:

  1. Double-check printer settings in the Square POS app (not just Dashboard):

    • Go to Settings > Hardware > Printers in the app youโ€™re using at the register.

    • Tap your Epson printer, scroll to the Receipts section, and make sure โ€œAutomatically Print Receiptsโ€ is actually toggled off. Sometimes the Dashboard looks correct but the local device app has its own setting.

  2. Check โ€œOrder Ticketsโ€ vs. โ€œReceiptsโ€:

    • Square can print order tickets to the printer (for kitchen/bar flow) even if receipts are turned off. Make sure those are off if you donโ€™t want anything auto-printing.

  3. Unpair and re-add the printer:

    • Delete it from your printer list in the Square app, then reconnect it. This forces the app to refresh all its rules.

  4. Test with a different device (if possible):

    • Sometimes the setting is cached on the iPad/phone. Testing with another device can tell you if itโ€™s device-specific.

If none of that does the trick, it could be that the printerโ€™s default firmware is set to auto-print. In that case, a factory reset on the printer and reconnecting to Square can clear it out (I know, annoying, but it usually works).

Hopefully one of those steps gets it behavingโ€”because nobody has time for receipts you didnโ€™t ask for ๐Ÿ˜…
