E Gift Card purchased for same name Cafe in another Country

Yesterday we had an older gentleman come in with a printed E-Gift Card and his family. They all placed their food and drink order leaving him to pay with his Gift Card. My FOH tried multiple times to get it to work, he insisted he had not used it, and it was only 7 weeks old. I took the paper copies, sent his order through to prevent any further delays, and refunded him the $2.60 balance, in cash. After we closed for the day, I researched the Gift Card and discovered that it was purchased for a "like named" Cafe, in Canada. Their email & web page are very similar to ours, minus the hyphens, otherwise identical. Is it possible to recover the funds from the other Cafe, as they are obviously not visiting them, 1100 mi away? I am intrigued however and may make that trip myself, someday, in my "free time." 🤔😉🤣

Hi there, @ob1👋

First off, I am sorry for the confusion that occurred. That must have been super frustrating trying to get it to work.

There really isn't a way to "recover" the funds from the other business. You could reach out and maybe discuss making some changes so that there is no more confusion. But, that would have to be facilitated between business owners, outside of Square.

Once again, I'm so sorry this happened! Hopefully this was just a fluke situation, and you do not see it happen again.
