DoorDash integration question

I just got an email from doordash this morning saying i would need to update my square and doordash stuff

To continue using DoorDash with Square, you need to update your Square integration to the new setup by November 10th, 2025. If you do not update your integration by this date, your Square integration will be deactivated. Please note, if you are not already on a Square for Restaurants free, plus, or premium plan, you will be required to switch over prior to migrating.

when i went to review the free option i noticed that i would no longer be able to take a part cash and part card payment. is this how square for Restaurants works I dont need any of the other features we are a take out only we have no tables we don't do alcohol. you call in your order and pickup and leave

I believe you don't need to use the Square for Restaurant for your regular PoS. I sell boba tea to go and I have the regular PoS for my Square Register.

I added the Square Restaurant (for the KDS + Kiosk) and I now use that for the UberEats integration.

So I believe you can add Square for Restaurant to your account (setup the menu etc and add the integration) but in your regular Square Register or iPad continue using the regular Square Point of Sale for device code (which is what I do since I do not like the Square for Restaurant functionality to take customer orders)

Hi there, @uncletonyspizza,

Just wanted to follow up here about a few of the points you made! As @KayTeaStudio mentioned, you will still be able to use Square Point of Sale services even with using Square for Restaurants, which is required for this integration. @tranguyen stepped in here as well to provide information about the concern over split payments. The Square for Restaurants pricing page says Free doesn't support splitting tickets, which allows merchants to split up and continue managing tickets post-split, which is different from taking a split payment of cash and card, which is supported across all Point of Sale. If you have any follow up questions about this additional context, please let any of us know in this thread.

Hi there, @uncletonyspizza,

That is a great question, yes, to be using DoorDash, there will be the requirement of also being on Square for Restaurants. I’ve shared your feedback on this change with our Product Team, as they are constantly improving our products based on notes like this. In the meantime, keep an eye out for any updates in our Square Community. We appreciate your input!

Hey @uncletonyspizza just want to jump in and clarify something quickly. When you mention that it looks like you won't be able to take "a part cash and a part card payments", is this for when you're taking payments from customers?

With Square for Restaurants Free, you should still be able to take both cash and card payments, and able to split a payment and charge them to different payment thods, whether that's a different card or part cash and card. If you are not seeing cash coming up as a payment method, can you share a screenshot with us and the device you are using so we can look into this further?

Alternatively, @KayTeaStudio hd a great suggestion! While you can subscribe to Square for Restaurant free, you can continue to use the standard Square Point of Sale as you are now. Setting up a device code would be a great way to achieve this.

So I am looking for clarification as well. We currently use POS Register and have a Square for Retail subscription for our coffee/gift shop. It sounds like to continue to use DoorDash as we currently do nothing is required. Is it true that we do not have to switch/upgrade to Square for Restaurants?

I believe you have to subscribe to Square for Restaurant to continue using DoorDash. I was just providing a suggestion on how they can keep their functionality with the Regular PoS register where you can have the Restaurant Subscription to use their other features but continue using the regular PoS functionality using the default device code.
