Customer Facing Display Required

Will Square ever add a Customer Facing Display for non-Register users?

Customer Facing Displays are required in California.  Why do I have to replace all of my existing Square equipment, and spend another $800 on a hardware setup I don't really like just to get that functionality?

I've tried connecting the Square Terminal to my Square for Retail POS, but it doesn't work for cash transactions, so I'm not 100% compliant. (Also it doesn't show items as they are being added before you get to payment, which is preferable.)

@wordhorde ;

To be compliant do you need a Customer Facing Display only  or do you need a Screen that the customer can interact by signing there also or completing their transaction?

Asking this as I use Square Stands and have setup Screen Sharing from my Ipad in the stand to another Tablet facing the opposite way for the customer.  The issue I had was when people would need to sign they would try signing the signature area on the Display Only screen.   Would that have you compliant?

What hardware do you currently use for your Square for Retail POS?

Thanks. Don't need to be able to interact. We don't ask for signatures, so that shouldn't be an issue.

To clarify, are you using the screen sharing feature as part of iOS? I'll have to give that a try, if it's an option on our older iPad.

Yes I used the Screen Sharing feature to see the Ipads Screen on an Android Tablet.  I just stopped using it because I am not required to use a 2nd screen where I am and people kept trying to sign then getting annoyed when they had to sign again on the Ipad.   There was a slight delay but well under 2 seconds.  I could add an item with scanner to ipad, and then look at the android, and not see the newly added item, but then I would.  So a slight delay.

Hello @wordhorde !

Square does have a Customer Facing Display option available, but I believe you need to call in to support to get it enabled on your account.

Once you do, you'll see the option to add a customer display on the hardware settings page on your app. All you need is a device capable of running the point of sale app (doesn't have to be the latest and greatest device at all). On the display device, choose the option to Use as Display, and on your main device you should be able to link to it.

A few notes:

-The customer display needs wifi connection and you must have bluetooth disabled on the device

-It is a really rudimentary system: it will show the order in real time, but there is no customer interaction with it at all

-It was launched way back when California came up with this regulation and I don't believe it's been updated since so don't be surprised if you have to call in multiple times to find a tech that remembers this is a thing. I can't even find a help file for it anymore!

Hope this helps!

Are you using this with Square for Retail? I thought when I had looked into this option a couple of years ago that it was only available on regular Square POS, but perhaps that's changed.

@wordhorde  I honestly don’t know if it was released for Retail or not. Your best bet would be to call into support for that clarification
