Until 2 days ago, I've always had the option to combine or separate the tipping and payment screens. I have always kept them combined because handing the device to a customer with the "Would you like to leave a tip" question, feels awkward and unprofessional.
Is it possible to restore the option to separate the screens? I've been a square user for at least a decade. It's always been great, and the combined signature+tipping screen has resulted in a boost to sales as most of my card paying clients opt to tip. As it stands now though, I tap "no tip" before handing them the phone to avoid the awkwardness. I'd like to keep using Square, but I'm not willing to sacrifice tips to do so.
Any help resolving this would be appreciated.

I understand how important tipping options are for your business and the experience you want to create for your customers. You can adjust this by going to Settings > Checkout > Signature & Receipt > Toggle Collect Signatures. From there, you can choose whether customers sign on the device or on a printed receipt. If tips are enabled, they will be collected wherever signatures are collected.

Thank you for your reply! I do have signatures enabled on device, but the tip screen is still presented as a separate screen, before the signature screen. I hope other square users find this problematic as well and speak up so that hopefully this will get changed.

I'm really, really hoping this gets resolved. It's causing us to leave literally hundreds of dollars per week on the table.
Bump. This is an issue for a lot of Square users. There are numerous threads about it. Can we please get this issue elevated? We're all losing money, and by extension so is Square.

I recently (11/15-16 2025) came back from a market, and I too am STILL experiencing the same issue as well, and no matter where I search in the settings, it is still not giving me the option to combine tipping + signature screen and it's been frustrating because I also have been losing out on tips as well whenever I do markets. I just updated my Square app 5 days ago too. I almost NEVER comment in forums and things like this especially if I can just search and find the answer somewhere but I have not been able to find anything. This has been going on for too long and it's been affecting my business.

Unfortunately that's the issue that many of us have been faced with -- the option to separate tipping screen has been completely omitted. There is no toggle of section for us to opt in or out of it, it's just gone entirely.

Try signing out of the community and then back in. You should be able to upload them. Also, what device and app are you using? Have you tried to delete and reinstall the app?
@Starriko is correct- the setting is no longer displayed in the settings list (I attached screenshots in the first post of this thread). If I login on desktop, and manage the device (my phone), the setting is displayed there, BUT toggling it on/off doesn't have any actual effect on the phone's settings.
Thanks for the reminder. That's really odd, because I am seeing that option on my end. I know you said you are using a Google Pixel 5 on the latest app version. Can you confirm which version the app is on? Does deleting and reinstalling the app help?
Yep, Pixel 5 and app version 6.81.1 . I do see that the "Ask for tips before payment" beta option has appeared in the tipping menu, but the toggle for the separate tipping screen is still gone.
I've tried deleting and reinstalling the app and that didn't fix the problem. I've tried using different 'modes' in Square to see if that would help, but it didn't.
Hey @Grossy Thanks for reporting this.
We made this change a couple of months ago because we found that on some smaller Android phones having the tip screen combined with the signature screen was cutting off the text when held in landscape mode. This is less of an issue on phones with larger screens (e.g. your Pixel 5), but on smaller screens customers were unable to perform any action on a combined screen.
We're working on redesigning these screens, but in the meantime we'll re-enable this option. You should now see the setting to disable "separate tipping screen". Just keep in mind if you have a smaller Android device it might cause issues.
