I use Square POS and Square for Restaurants.
I have just tidied up all my items for reporting as follows.
Category > Beverage
Category > Food
Now under that I have subcategories for directing to Barista KDS and Back Bar docket printer.
The rest of the items are fast grab and go and don't need to print or go anywhere.
Beverage > Barista
Beverage > Back Bar
And then the rest just stay in Beverage
In order to direct them in 3 different behaviours, can I untick the main Beverage category on Back Bar and Barista and they will still report to Beverage?

Yes, unticking the main "Beverage" category for "Barista" and "Back Bar" subcategories will allow you to customise their behaviour for printing while still including them in the "Beverage" category for reporting.
By unticking the main "Beverage" category for "Barista" and "Back Bar":
- Items categorised under "Barista" and "Back Bar" will still be part of the "Beverage" category for reporting purposes.
- However, they will behave differently based on the subcategory settings you've configured.
Since you mentioned directing items to different printers based on subcategories:
- Items categorised under "Barista" will be directed to the Barista KDS printer.
- Items categorised under "Back Bar" will be directed to the Back Bar docket printer.
- Items in the main "Beverage" category that are not part of any subcategory will behave according to your default settings.
