Barcode Scanner adding first variation to the sale when 'skip item details' is turned on

The title of this thread has been edited from the original: Barcode Scanning.

Hi, we use barcode scanning for items such as snacks and soft drinks bottles, however when we have an item with say 4 variations all 4 items are displayed if a single barcode is scanned, if we set to skip item details screen then the first item in the variation list is selected and added to the sale. Obviously this doesn't work very well with stock takes as we are finding that we are down so many of 1 selection and up the same amount of another selection, does anyone know a way around this as surely this isn't how it should work!

To confirm, do all 4 variations have their own unique GTIN assigned? Reusing the same GTIN across multiple item variations is strongly discouraged as it can cause issues with scanning, so each variation should have its own unique GTIN.

Hi @Katie_SQ yes all 4 have unique GTINs, I have tried to use the GTIN field and also the SKU field, the same happens with both, if you can look at our data then J2o's are a typical example.

If you disable 'Skip Item Details' for an item with multiple variations and unique GTINs, does the system allow you to select a variation when you scan one of these items?

Yes @Katie_SQ as I mentioned in the original post it displays all the variations, which then you can select one, but if you have quite a few variations this can take time to find the one required, surely the purpose of scanning a barcode is to speed up the sales process.
