Bar Code Scanner Symbol LS2208 Issue

95% of the time my Symbol LS2208 bar code scanner works great.  Problem is that 5% of the time the bar code scanner will chirp, as if an item was scanned, but it does not add the item to check out?  After an attempt or two it does add it. If you are moving quick or not paying attention you move on to the next item when you hear the chirp, who knows how many item have not been added and given away at no charge?  I purchased a new scanner from Square, hoping previous one was a lemon but same issue.  Really need to get this figured out ASAP. Any suggestions?  Thank you

Hi @KhrisD 👋 Thanks for posting on our Seller Community!

Can you please let us know the Square hardware you are using? Can you also please check to see if the device has an available update?

I was able to find the following troubleshooting suggestions for the scanner online:

  • Check the USB connections
Unplug the scanner from your device and plug it back in. Make sure the Square Register or Square Stand is plugged into the USB accessories hub, and the hub is plugged into a power adapter. You can also try using a different USB port.
  • Clean the USB accessory port
Remove any dust or debris from the USB accessory port.
  • Use an item with a barcode
Try scanning the barcode on an item that has a barcode or UPC, like store-bought product packaging.
  • Open a document
Open a notepad or word document, place the cursor in the message, and scan the barcode. See if the cursor jumps to the next line.
  • Reset the scanner
Press and hold the Home and Scan buttons simultaneously for five seconds. Release the buttons when the SB1 beeps.
  • Scan from left to right
Scan the four bar codes labeled Return to Factory Defaults, 1, 2, and 3, then scan from left to right the bar codes labeled Add an Enter Key.

Please let me know if any of this helps! If not, we'll try some more investigating into the issue.
