"State" field does not fill in at checkout when using Apple Pay

I'm having the same problem, my first customer tried to use Apple Pay and it does not fill in the State field (not unsurprisingly). I see that this was raised some 6 months ago, has anything been done to try and work out a solution. It would seem like a simple solution would be for the checkout to ignore State if United Kingdom is selected.
