Can someone help me with this? @isabelle @Summer2024 ?
I was searching for a product I carry, of course I came up, but in the google listing it shows another business? If you google said business it is very much a Square hosted business. Perhaps I have stumbled on the holy grail of why i have so many issues? lol
I imediately opened my dashboard to check SEO and description data:
@JTPets :
You do not have a SEO Description in here. I used AI and got:
An SEO description for "Pampered Pooch Microfiber Noodle Mat Grey" could be something like:
"Treat your dog to ultimate comfort with the Pampered Pooch Microfiber Noodle Mat in Grey. Soft, absorbent, and perfect for drying off after bath time or creating a cozy spot for your pet to relax. Its microfiber noodles gently massage your pet’s paws, while its sleek grey design complements any home decor. Durable, machine-washable, and designed for everyday use, this mat offers luxury and practicality for your furry friend."
This description is optimized for SEO by including relevant keywords like "dog mat," "microfiber," "absorbent," "soft," and "cozy."
I know you like AI so I tried this for you since I do not know much about SEO's.
Now worse information for you when I searched for
"Pampered Pooch Microfiber Noodle Mat Grey"
Your business did not show up at all, now this could be because I am in the USA and not Canada..... IDK.
The other thing I was told by my Marketers is sometimes it takes a few months before the Google Bots keep seeing your Page or Pages to post your results higher on pages.
@Candlestore look at the Google screenshot. Another entire business is being mentioned "west village knit and needle " in new york?
@JTPets ;
I missed the Pick Up location Highlighted in the Google Search Screen Shot. That is a new one for me.
The meta (SEO) description is the issue and it is actually happening to a lot of your products, not just this one (see screenshot below). The meta description is a crucial element for SEO. Google is choosing to write its own in the absence of one. I couldn't tell you why it is choosing a random address in New York, but adding an SEO description to each item should resolve when Google search algorithm updates. Here is a link for some documentation by Google Search on influencing your title links in search. I know you are referencing the description, but thought that would be relevant. What is most important is that you are writing a meta (SEO) description that is generally informing users with a short summary about the particular item. This will boost your SEO. Here is documentation on how to control your descriptions in search results.
You should be aware that when searching for research purposes, you should use incognito mode, as you are, actually 10th in search results for people who have not visited your site before for this item. I used a clean browser and Canadian VPN for this data (see screenshot below). The Google algorithm uses your previous search history and websites you've visited to personalize your search results. As you have likely visited your site before, your search may be biased. Writing these descriptions should boost your results.
Hey @JTPets, I got the same search the result and while our team's support for SEO is quite limited, I've escalated to understand a bit more whether the NY address is a default address that we set in the background for Pick Up option. Will follow-up once I hear from the team!
It is a legitimate business that hosts on a square site @tranguyen https://www.wvknitandneedle.com/
Thanks for bearing with me while I check in with our ECOM team, @JTPets!
The team confirmed what @mattd was saying about SEO descriptions, and that the NY address isn't a default Square address or anything like that.
In this case, the team advised it is best to complete the steps outlined by @mattd and update your items with your own SEO descriptions. Once you've updated the description and republished your site, please also be aware that Google only scrubs their system for SEO updates once every 2 to 3 weeks. This means it can take a couple of weeks for Google to reindex their URLs in the search engine.
If that still does not correct the issue, unfortunately, reaching out to Google would be the best route to take in this case.
You're right the HTML properties are displaying the description of the West Village Knit address. I do recommend adding yourself to the Google Search Console in the sitemap section to improve your crawl once you've made the changes. This issue seems localized to Google Search and not other browsers.
@tranguyen While I am not 100% sure, Square may want to further investigate with indexing of meta descriptions in Google Search. See the photo below as that address is populating additional sites on Google searches.
This is interesting. I haven't messed with SEO in a couple years myself. So Google pulled the descritpion from the other business in NY, assuming that they have the description set?
You could re-submit your sitemap in Search Console and that should trigger a little bit faster of a crawl I believe?
