What Are Your Best Tips for Managing Inventory and Online Sales with Square?

Hi everyone,

I’m interested in learning how other small business owners manage their inventory when selling both online and in person using Square.

One challenge with multichannel selling is keeping stock levels accurate and avoiding situations where an item sells online after it has already been purchased in-store. What practices have worked best for you to keep inventory synchronized and reduce manual updates?

I’d appreciate any suggestions or lessons learned from those who have been using Square for a while. Thanks in advance for sharing your experience!

Unfortunately, we haven't found a clean way to do it. We used to have multiple locations so we could compare online and in person sales, but because inventory is specific to location we had to go down to one location. It's really frustrating because we're a mobile business and we can't keep changing our location based off where we will be. We did find that in the reporting there's a source and device column, so that's how we've been able to determine what was sold online or in person. It's very rare that we have encountered someone purchasing something in person that sold out online. We have also turned off our online orders during big events just to make sure it doesn't happen

One thing that can also help when managing an online store is keeping product listings organized with clear, consistent names and descriptions. This makes it easier for customers to find products and helps maintain consistency across sales channels. For brainstorming product names and finding suitable words for listings, WordsFindr can also be useful. Combined with Square's inventory synchronization features, this can help create a more organized shopping experience
