Setting up Store Website

I'm new to Square, and have the free account, as our sales will be small to start with. After our sales increase enough to pay for the account, we'll upgrade.

My wife and I are self published authors, and want to be able to sell some of our books, and services on our own online, or Square store. To start with, it will be eBooks, then later it will be paperback, and hard cover books.

We are also starting a registration service for animal owners who have animals/pets that do not qualify for formal registrations services like, kennel clubs, breed organizations, etc.

With the free account, can we set up a Square online store? Can we set up a store on our own website with links to Square to collect payment, etc?

I'm thinking of getting the Square Terminal for book sales at Author Days, etc. I have many more questions, but will limit this post to those above.

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

@rebelranch Welcome to the community.

With the free plan, you can create a Square online store and sell your products without paying a monthly subscription. You’ll just pay Square’s normal processing fee when you make a sale. Square currently lists the Free plan at $0/month.

For your books:

eBooks: Square supports digital items such as eBooks. One thing to be aware of is that Square describes these as files you can sell online and then manually send to the customer, so I would test that workflow before loading a large catalog.
Paperback and hardcover books: Those can simply be set up as physical items when you're ready.
Registration services: You can create those as non-physical/service-type items depending on exactly how you want the registration process to work.

If you have an iPad , iPhone or Android phone I would start with that for your POS, the app is free and you don't have to buy any other hardware. You can just send the customer a digital receipt. If you are looking at getting the terminal, I would also look at the handheld. It's a newer model. but doesn't print receipts. The handheld is a little larger than an iphone, we have switch all our Registers ower to Square handhelds.

If you have any other questions post them here and we will try to help you out.

Here is a link to Square documentation on selling non physical items, it may be of some help

I also see you already have a website, if your hosting company has the ability to allow you to let people download digital files, you can just incorporate Square into your website as the processor and not have to build another site.

I think my ISP can allow me to do that. I'll research it. Thanks for the information, and your help.
