SSL cert on new Weebly site

My domain is hosted elsewhere but the A IP address has been changed and everything set up correctly to point to my new Weebly website.  This was done last Sunday at 10pm however my customers can still not access my website online the following error message comes up -

This site can’t provide a secure connection

www.pennylayneparties.com uses an unsupported protocol.

ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH

Looking on my Weebly site it tells me that the SSL is enabled. So I don’t know what the problem is I have tried to contact Weebly through email and support chat which ends up at Square who can’t help me but have forwarded an email to Weebly twice now. It is now Friday so my website has been down for five working days. Can anybody help?

Yes I was way past all those steps.

Just to update, everything is working now and if you are one of the people reading this and have this weird issue, what I did to fix the issue is go to your settings of the site (in Weebly) in the editor > Unpublish the site. You should now see SSL not enabled. Click "enable" on SSL again (it will say it will take a few minutes) but you are safe to then Publish the site again. This forced a new SSL to generate for the site and finally stopped the errors the browsers were throwing (ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH)

Hi there, @LHale! I appreciate you taking the time to post here on the Square Community. Welcome!

I sent a message over to our eCommerce team to take a look. They went ahead and re-enabled the SSL, while resetting a few things on their side. I just tested it, and your site appears to now be working!

Please take a look for yourself, and if you end up having any other questions, please let me know. I am happy to help.

Hello!

I'm seeing the same error, I, too have my domain through another company whois.com and I chatted with their tech support. They said that the SSL has to be enabled through Square (or Weebly, originally).

It looks really bad, so I hope someone can help me, too?

My domain name https://avalemert.com forwards to: avalemertmusic.square.site

Hi @avalemert, thank you for reaching out!

I checked in with our eCommerce team on this. First off, to clarify, there is a site hosting service and a domain hosting service, and for your case, Square is just the site hosting service. So the first main issue, is that your domain does have to be configured first.

Here is a list of steps to get you back up and running:

  • You will need to upgrade to a paid plan for your Square site, in order for your domain to work correctly with your site.
  • Once that is done, then you will need to change your site address to the correct address you prefer.
  • During this process, you will receive your DNS information, which you will then have to provide to your domain hosting service.
  • Then you will just need to verify the information.
  • Finally, once all of these steps are followed, THEN is when we can look further into your SSL issue.

Could you please give these steps a try, and let me know once that is all complete? I would be happy to reach out to our eCommerce team again for them to take another look into your SSL issue after I hear back.

Similar situation with me recently. I'm getting the ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH error in both Chrome and Firefox for my site: technicallytoytalk.com. Domain was purchased elsewhere, A records are pointing the right way. I have a paid plan on the Weebly end where it was created. Normally in the past SSL would setup within a couple hours and all that, but the site still isn't working after doing everything possible on my end.

Sorry to hear you are experiencing this too, @mrmerchbot.

Just to confirm, have you gone through these steps?

  • You will need to upgrade to a paid plan for your Square site, in order for your domain to work correctly with your site.
  • Once that is done, then you will need to change your site address to the correct address you prefer.
  • During this process, you will receive your DNS information, which you will then have to provide to your domain hosting service.
  • Then you will just need to verify the information.
  • Finally, once all of these steps are followed, then is when we can look further into your SSL issue.

Please let me know once these steps have been confirmed!
