I believe Squares setup of discounts across online and in-store options is one big mess and needs a complete overhaul. I have phoned and complained a few times, with no resolution.
As it currently stands:
You can create 'discounts' in its own section of the system - not in the items section. But have to manually add each item to these discounts, and they don't drop off when you archive, so it becomes a very long list of old stock that is no longer relevant. It's limited by a $ value or %, so if I wanted a $15 rack for old stock varying in original prices, I'd have to load a separate discount for each different priced item to achieve the same final sale price.
Each item also has an 'online discount' option in the item screen itself, but it won't carry through for in-store purchases. And if you use this option, but have already got a discount loaded in the 'discounts' section, then it will layer and cause further unwanted discounts online. But you can't tell in the item screen if it's attached to any discounts. The only way is to either manually scroll through all the items in all the different discounts to see if it's tagged, or go to your website directly and see how it presents online customer facing.
And if you want to create an online voucher code, you can do that in another section of the system, but this is very limited and if you want to do a blanket "20% off in store and online sale, including sale items", the voucher code will only work if there is no sale items in their cart. A huge issue that is disabling my business from effectively marketing and competing for online presence and sales. COSTING ME SALES!!
So you end up either giving up, or sinking far too many hours creating discounts to layer and adding individual items one by one in the background, to automate it for online customers and in-store checkout processes.
IT'S A MESS!!
My preference would be:
Discounts are loaded in the item page to each individual item, with the ability to select and apply across multiples within this feature. NO SEPARATE DISCOUNT PAGE.
Online Voucher Codes still exist for special deals, with the option to apply those same discounts to in-store purchases automatically.
Sounds too simple, right? But why haven't square fixed this issue?
Please tell me I'm not the only one suffering with this chaos?
