Membership comes with a 10% Discount

I am trying to set up a membership using subscriptions to offer some benefits and discounts such as 10% off anything on the website... how do I get them the discount code or the like? Ideas? Are you doing something similar?

For the item I just created "$5 Membership"... 

Is there a better way?

You could set up a promo code and put the code info in a welcome/follow-up email. I'm not sure if you could add it to an automatic email once they subscribe. I don't use subscriptions myself. If not, you could just send an email after they purchase. I'd create a template for that email you can copy and paste in.
