I need to use Square POS with the latest Samsung Galaxy S21 5G 128GB. Why isn't it compatible yet?

I purchased Square hardware and downloaded the APP onto my new Samsung Galaxy S21 5G 128GB, but nothing will pair. Why isn't SQUARE compatible with the latest Tablet. I have already opened the business, but everything is just sitting there un useable. What is the solution here?

Hey @BBSA,

Thanks for getting in touch and sorry to hear you're having trouble getting going on the Galaxy S21!

I took a further look, and unfortunately it looks like this model is not currently tested as compatible with Square. You can view a list of devices we've tested as working with Square here.

If you're just asking why this isn't the case - I'm afraid I don't have an answer for that! Square aims to support a number of popular models of phone and tablet on the market, however we are not able to develop for every available model. I know it must be frustrating to have set up hardware then found your tablet isn't on the list. The best course of action would be to use a model that we've already verified as compatible - sorry I can't offer any further help than this!

Hi Seamus.

Just read this issue as I also have an S21 Ultra 5G Samsung experiencing the identical issue.

It is now June 2022, I can't buy another phone, and am ready to start my business. When is your Square Reader going to be cleared to be used on my phone.?

Hi @Ianb2 thanks for reaching out to us here.

There are several thousand Android devices on the market, and we strive to support them all. In some cases, however, we may not have any data available for a particular device. Certain Android devices may meet all the requirements for compatibility, but still not communicate properly with Square hardware or the app.

While we can't confirm timelines for new devices being added to our compatibility page, you can check back here in future for updates to compatible devices: https://squ.re/3N7P6oi

I think the issue is that you have sales people in Officeworks and Telstra giving the wrong advice.

Sorry to hear @BBSA, that sounds like a frustrating experience. If you purchased the tablet from a retailer who told you it'd work with Square readers, I recommend requesting a refund from the retailer or an exchange for a tablet that we list as compatible!
