I have enabled shipping and it is not working

I have enabled shipping on all items, enabled shipping in my online fulfillment settings, added weight to every item, setup a shipping profile, and set shipping as my default fulfilment method.

 

Previously, I have only done pickup and local delivery. None of my items that were listed before I enabled shipping are coming up with shipping as an option on my live site. Only the ones that were listed after.  I have triple check that my items have weight and shipping enabled. 

The other thing is that even the few items where shipping is an option, it is not the default fulfilment method as I have set.

 

I have tried this across multiple browsers and devices: PC, iOS, and Android.

 

Does anyone know what's up here?

Hi @glitchgifts, sorry to hear that you're having some trouble. 

 

 

When you have a chance, could you review the following support article and double-check that all necessary settings have been applied? > Shipping With Square Online.

 

I also recommend clearing your cache and cookies, then trying to access your website from a different device or browser.

 

If shipping still isn’t showing as a fulfillment option after this, please share a link to your site and confirm your shipping radius, and I’ll take a look on my end.

Hello and thanks for your reply.

 

I seem to have figured out part of the problem. I set up a custom shipping profile, and have assigned weight arbitrarily to all of my items so that align with my own rates that I have setup. 

 

Now, I see that there is a Shipping Box option.  That appears to be tied to real time shipping rates, which I actually do not want to use.  And I figures out that I need to assign a shipping box to an item, then shipping is available for it.

Further to that, I see that the default box is being automatically applied to new listings, but I have over 500 items that were already listed and it looks like I need to open each item individually to assign a box.

 

So my next questions are: Do I need to have real time shipping enabled? If not, how do I disable it?  And if I do, is there a way to bulk edit it to apply to my items?

Hello again, I am just wondering if you had any information on bulk editing my products to add the shipping box other than one by one. I have called and emailed support over this and there has been no follow-up.  So far you are the only help I have received in any form.

Sorry for the delay @glitchgifts and also that you haven't heard back from our support team just yet. 

 

Regarding real-time shipping, could you share a link to your site and let me know how your shipping rates are currently set up (e.g., International, Canada, North America, etc.)?

 

As for your first question, you should be able to bulk update your item fulfillment, but if you have a large inventory, it might take a few attempts to complete

 

From your Item Library > Select Items > Actions > Update fulfilment methods:

I have done all that actually.  The bulk edit "update fulfilment methods" did add shipping to all items, except it did not add the default shipping box to any of the items that were listed on my site before enabling shipping.  

 

Only newly listed items that were added after enabling shipping are working. I figured out that it is tied to the "Default shipping box" setting.  If I open an item in my dashboard that shipping isn't working on and assign a box, it then comes up as available to ship on the site.  

 

So the issue now is that there is no option that I can see where I can select multiple items from my catalog and add a default box in the same way that I could do with the "update fulfillment" option.  So it appears that I will have to literally open each item and add the box manually.  I have roughly 600 live items on the site, but have another 1500 items to add.  So having to edit each item one by one will take me days or maybe weeks of work, when there could be an option to edit my default box and have an option to apply to all items, which would take no time at all.

 

The box settings say I need to have it it enabled for real time shipping, which I don't want. 

I am planning to upgrade to a pro plan if I can get this sorted, but I currently don't even qualify for it with a basic plan.  I also don't see why I need a default box size if I am strictly setting my own rates based on item weight.  

 

Sorry this got long. Lots to sort out.

Here are screen shots of my shipping being set to calculate by weight, as well as a confirmation that changing the box will apply to 54 items that are set at real time shipping, which should not be turned on since I don't have that in my plan.  Is there a way that you guys can turn off real time shipping from your end?  

 

I can't even access settings.

Thanks for the details @glitchgifts 

 

For updating the settings, you can use the Import/Export Tool for your item library. This allows you to export your library, make bulk updates to the fulfillment options, and then reimport it. Let me know if you’re able to test that out.

 

Regarding your second question, I checked with the Square Online team, and they confirmed that real-time shipping isn't enabled on your site. They added items to the cart and saw that the shipping cost at checkout matched the rules you’ve set up based on the order's weight.

 

By having a default shipping profile with weight-based rates, everything should work as expected. The box size won’t matter much since you’ll enter it when buying the shipping label. Setting up the boxes in the shipping settings is more about getting an accurate price for RTS, which isn’t being used in your case.

Hello and thanks again! 

 

The shipping box settings is absolutely what is preventing my items from having shipping available on my site though.  For the new products I have added, the box is being applied, but for the hundreds of existing products were previously listed on my site, the only thing that makes them work for shipping is adding a box, which as you say, shouldn't be an issue since I have chosen shipping based on weight.  But that is 100% the problem.  

 

The items that you clicked on would be my newer items where shipping is working.  Here's a link to a product where shipping is not working, and I will screenshot the fulfilment settings for them.

Under shipping box, it says "Select the box that this item will ship in to get real time shipping rates calculated at checkout."   

 

But I do not have real time shipping enabled, nor do I want it. So why is it forcing me to add the box, or else it will not show up at all for shipping on my site.  

 

This is a huge problem at my end here.  And I am afraid to export and import my entire library of items. What if there is a glitch and I lose everything?   Will all of my item photos import back in?  

 

If this is the only way, can you give me directions on that so that I don't mess up my entire site? 

 

Ideally, could you please see why the dashboard is enforcing shipping boxes when I don't have real time shipping enabled?  And wouldn't it be best if there was a box to tick off that applies the default box to all items instead of me having to go through all of this?
