Domain Pricing Comparison and Features

I have a custom domain through Google for $12 annually. Square Online offers a custom domain for $20 annually after the first year. For twice the amount, what is the difference between two?

If I just choose to connect (instead of transferring) my Google custom domain to the Square Online Plus account, will customers still be able to see the custom domain name throughout the website or will it change to name.square.site?

Why should I consider paying $10 more to have my domain name through Square, other than to consolidate services through one provider, when that $10 can go to Google and include a custom domain email through Google Workspace?

Hi @jackra88it.  All good questions.  Let’s take them one at a time.

  1. I’m not sure that I know of any difference between the two for domain registration.  I assume that you have complete control of your DNS, CNAME, A record, etc, through a Google dashboard.  If not, then this would be the biggest difference, as Square includes this are part of their annual fee.  That means that when you need to change pointers, etc, you can do it yourself with Square.  Otherwise, if you have a cheaper price, go with it.
  2. I connect my Square site to a GoDaddy domain because Square doesn’t yet register .biz TLDs, which is what mine is.  Once you link your Square site to your domain, that is what customers see.  The “.square.site” URLs are ONLY for free Square sites.

Having said all of that, keep in mind that Google Workspace is changing a lot.  No more free email addresses, for example.  I’m betting that this fire sale price for domain registration won’t last forever.  But, if it changes, switching is easy enough.

Let me know if you need anything else.
