Can I change from a sub domain to a custom domain?

Hi, I am in the process of setting up an online business selling handmade latex garments and accessories.  I am trying to decide if I go with the Free plan and use a Square sub domain name, or pay for a Plus plan and have a custom domain name.

If I initially go for the Free plan and sub domain name, can I later on change to the Plus plan and have a custom domain name?

Thank you

You can upgrade from a free account to a paid account and also get a custom domain - that's easy.  Having said that, there's so many options as to how you want to proceed moving forward with your business.   There's quite a few things to consider down the road - for example - presently if you setup a Domain Name through Square, they don't offer business email addresses that match your Domain name.  Thinking about the future, it looks much more professional for your business if your email address matches your Domain name verses having a 3rd party email address that ends in "hotmail.com" or some other name.   Example - you choose "simplylatex.com" for your Domain Name and setup up "sales.simplylatex.com" or "info.simplylatex.com" for an email address - this presents a more uniform look for your business communication.   As your business grows, you will want everything to be in sync.   For now, if you're just starting out, using Square's free online features is the way to go as you're not going to waste any money - if it takes off - then it's time to look at options for the future.  Also, just having a website is only the beginning - think marketing, social media and what makes your site, products and services better than your competition.

I have no use for most of the "features" of the paid plans, so can't see paying for them. I do inventory and accounting-- including tax calculations-- in Excel, so no need for Quickbooks integration, and have no employees, so no payroll/etc. No need for more processing than the dongle for my phone, the order form from the "store", and the ability to send a Square invoice occasionally.

I have a custom domain name through GoDaddy, and point it to my Square site (which has gone through a few site names since I signed up for Square). Originally, I had a Weebly hosted site (free version, but could use my custom domain name on it), but for some reason, it went "poof!" when Square took over, and I couldn't get it back. That, and the general clunkiness of editing the Square site, makes me disinclined to "upgrade".
