Hi everyone,
Iโm currently working on the typography for a Square Online store and wanted to hear how others are handling custom fonts.
I know Square Online allows custom font uploads through the site design settings, but Iโm trying to find the best balance between branding and readability, especially for headings, product titles, buttons, and mobile screens.
My current thought is to use a more distinctive cursive font generator for headings and keep body text simple and easy to read. Before finalizing a style, I sometimes compare different text treatments with tools like ลekilli Nick just to get a quick feel for different visual directions, then use proper web fonts in the actual store.
For anyone using custom fonts in Square Online:
Iโd be interested to see how other store owners are handling this.
Iโm definitely on team two fonts rather than using one across the entire site. ๐ I think a distinctive font can look great for headings and branding, but Iโd keep body text, product descriptions, pricing, and especially buttons very clean and easy to read.
Iโd also be careful with cursive fonts on mobile. Something that looks beautiful on desktop can get hard to read really quickly once itโs scaled down. Iโd probably reserve cursive for larger headings or short phrases rather than product titles or anything customers need to scan quickly.
My biggest test would honestly be viewing the site on your phone before publishing. Check product pages, navigation, buttons and checkout and make sure you can read everything without having to work for it.
Branding gets their attention, but readability gets them through checkout. ๐
Iโd love to hear what combinations everyone else is using too!
