Are we able to create a members only area to host online video courses?

Hi All, First Id like to say I apologize If this question has been asked already but I couldn't seem to find it.

Are we able to create a members only area to host online video courses that I have create for sale. eg. How to make sourdough 101. I was wondering if square has the ability to do this without having to use a 3rd party company like teachable etc.

Thanks!

Hey there @Calogerosllc.  So, there are two answers to your question.

First, if you want to do something as simple as created a password-protected web page that contains links to the videos, you should be able to do this via Square Online.  Keep in mind that the password would be the same for all visitors, and is something you would setup on your dashboard when creating the page.  You can regularly change that password, if you want, but you would have to provide the new password to all “subscribers” of record somehow.

Otherwise, if you are wanting a true subscriber area on your website, you’d currently have to do that via a Weebly website, since Weebly has this capability.  I use it for a small apartment complex website to allow tenant access to information that I only want tenants to be able to access.  Tenants set up their own userid/password and maintain that.  If you already have a Square Online site, this might come with additional costs of securing and hosting a new URL using Weebly.  But you could then provide a link in your Square Online main site that redirects subscribers to the controlled-access Weebly site.

Lastly, if neither of those options works for you, your only other recourse is the one you already mentioned — using a third-party plug-in of some sort.

Without using third party site like teachable, there are two options in square to password protect a website.

You can either password protect the entire website or specific pages, but it doesn't protect uploaded files which I know is not useful for a course website.

You can get the full detail here https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/7047-password-protection

To add my own opinion; you can create two separate websites with two different domains.

One would be for the public - like your landing page - that has everything you want anyone to see, and the other would be for members only. This would be password protected and whenever someone makes a purchase; you can send the site link and password to their email.

*** It's best to make sure customers sign up before sending the link and password. This will enable you to track those that paid and the ones accessing the members only site.

Note: depending on where you purchase your domain from, you can set up a free sub-domain which you can use for members only area.

If you have any questions, I will be sure to answer them.
