Applying sales tax based on client location

We are located in BC and offer pre-paid online consultations through a third party (Acuity), which has a direct integration with Square. We currently use Square simply for payment processing of those transactions.

Consultations are subject to GST or HST depending on where the client lives (or zero if outside of Canada). What I can't figure out is how use Square's tax setup to properly apply this. Has anyone else done so?

And yes, we're open to moving our appointment services to Square if the tax issue can be resolved internally. Thanks!

Hey there @Eandl and welcome to the Seller Community

From what I\ understand you would like to have GST or HST charges depending on the zip code the customer is booking from.

If so I will be looking into this for you and get back to you with an answer. If not make sure to @ me here and let me know.

Hello JJ,

It's been a couple months so I thought I'd check back in and see if anything has been learned about this. Cheers!

Hello, @EandI Glad to hear from you again!

What I've been able to gather is that this would need to be implemented by Acuity. Since they are the ones sending us the amount to debit or charge they would have to develop a way to set the Sales Taxes to dynamically apply to the transactions based on the correct Tax Rule needed.

If you were to say move your online sales to Square Online we have an automatic tax calculator that can detect the buyer's address and apply the correct tax rule.

I hope this information is helpful!

Hi @JJ_,

Thanks for getting back so promptly. That's good to hear. Do you have a link handy where I could read up more about Sqaure's automatic tax calculator? I looked around when we first signed up and don't recall finding anything.

Cheers!

~ Frank

Here's the link. Do keep in mind that the tax calculator is exclusive to Square Online Sites and Square Online Booking @EandI

Thanks!

So it seems that it works with Square Booking but only if we are also subscribed to using Square's Online Site service?

Yes, you're correct. However, both of these Tools/Services have a free tier you can take advantage of if they meet your business needs @EandI

Thanks for the confirmation. unfortunately, the free tiers are insufficient. We are also unprepared to go back to Weebly, which we ultimately found to be fraught with problems.

Thanks for your time.
