Another issue with email subscriptions

I’ve just done a test booking for a membership on my website and despite ticking both the permission boxes at the checkout for marketing/loyalty to say yes to emails etc - when I checked the customer record it said that I was unsubscribed for marketing. 

This is really worrying me, as I have no way of knowing who else (but real customers!) might have had the same thing happen to them. 

Is there any way to check this is functioning properly other than signing up for fake orders with multiple email addresses?

Welcome back to the Community! 

Have you looked into your Marketing report to see the status of those emails that have been sent out. Checking there can give you an idea of how your reports are landing with your customers. 

You would access this by going to your Dashboard > Marketing > Campaigns >  Click the "..." at the far right of the campaign you'd like to check on > From the drop down "View Report" 

This area is like a health report for your marketing campaigns. You're able to see the overall performance of your emails to your customers. It even shows you if anyone has unsubscribed. Since you ran the test on your email alone, it will be easy to see. Take a look and let me know if you're seeing any issues still.

This wouldn’t be a helpful solution to the issue I’ve described. I have no way to possibly know who has subscribed when they’ve checked out and whether they should be getting emails or not. If an account that I checked out with and definitely selected yes to marketing emails was tagged as unsubscribed then other accounts could also be marked as unsubscribed and so won’t be getting emails either. So they won’t appear in the reports at all.
