Why does my square terminal keep saying “something is wrong please try again later”?

I’m at my wits end here. I just bought a Square credit card processor terminal full price as I am beginning to start my business. I am trying to get verified so I can take card payments but everytime I’m at the “Tell us about your business” page, I input all my information correctly, business name, EIN/SSN, everything yet when I click next it keeps saying “Something is wrong. Try again later”. I just got my EIN 2 days ago, I don’t know what I’m doing wrong!

WHY DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING?

Hi @Silverkingfish,

That does sound frustrating, let’s see if we can get you through this another way. 😤

It sounds like you’re trying to set up your Square Terminal and complete your Square account sign-up at the same time. To make this easier, I recommend finishing the account sign-up and identity verification first via the Square Dashboard in a web browser. If possible, a desktop or laptop will give you the smoothest experience.

If you run into issues during the identity verification step, you can refer to our sign-up troubleshooting guide for help (more on choosing your business structure here). Overall, completing these steps through the Square Dashboard tends to be much more user-friendly.

Once your account is successfully verified, you can return to the Square Terminal, complete the basic setup steps (such as date and time), and then sign in using your Square account email and password.

If you run into any further issues after completing the troubleshooting steps, let us know.

Um, that’s exactly what I’m doing, I’m trying to verify my identity as stated in my post. It keeps saying my EIN doesn’t match with my Business and that I have to contact the IRS, they told me they have me on record and everything checks out. This is definitely something on YOUR side.

If you have my information in your system (which apparently you do according to your customer service reps) contact me immediately so we can solve this issue!

@Silverkingfish Just a thought, Did you happen to switch your business from your SSN to an EIN? If so there is usually a temporary verification hold, that could be why Square is rejecting your recent information. Square hasn’t received the updated information.I think that only takes a few days.  Hopefully this is the problem and it will clear up

No. I started my business, then got my EIN number. So technically it started as a EIN from the get go.

Just checking in to see if the problem got cleared up.  I checked and when you get a new EIN it states the IRS could take 3-10 business days for it to get into the system.  It’s been 2 weeks that you have been dealing with this, hopefully it’s in the system or close to being in the system by now.
