Unable to sign into Square Terminal with Square POS on iPhone

The software is up to date on both the square terminal and the Square POS app. When I go to Settings > Hardware > the only options I see are Square Readers, Printers, Bar Code Scanners, and Scales, but not Square Terminal, so I am not able to get device code and pair either my iPhone or iPad with the Square Terminal. What am I doing wrong? Any advice appreciated. Thanks!

@eldina I'm sorry for the frustration here. I have attached some things to double check when it comes to connection and pairing with the Square Terminal. Please let me know if none of these troubleshooting steps work and I will escalate to engineers. 

 

  1. Check Terminal Status:

    • Ensure Terminal is powered on
    • Verify it's connected to WiFi
    • Make sure it's not currently paired to another device
    • Check that it shows "Ready to Pair" on screen
  2. iPhone App Check:

    • Force close the Square Point of Sale app
    • Go to iPhone Settings > Square
    • Clear app cache if possible
    • Reopen Square app
    • Sign out and back in
  3. Connection Requirements:

    • Both devices must be on the same WiFi network
    • Square app needs latest version
    • Terminal needs latest firmware

If Still Not Seeing Terminal Option:

  1. App Refresh:

    • Uninstall Square app
    • Restart your iPhone
    • Reinstall Square app
    • Sign in fresh
  2. Network Troubleshooting:

    • Reset your WiFi router
    • Try connecting to a mobile hotspot
    • Ensure both devices have strong signal

Step-by-Step Pairing Process:

  1. Open Square app on iPhone
  2. Go to Settings > Hardware
  3. Look for "Connect Hardware"

Hello @eldina !

 

Quick question: when you’re trying to pair the two, are you looking at the settings menu on the terminal or the iPad/iphone? To get the device code, you need to be in the settings menu of your iOS device, not the terminal. 

If you are, then my next idea is to check More > Settings > Open Tickets. Can you tell us what options you have on this screen? There’s one setting that may be causing problems.
