Tap to pay not working on my iPhone after updated to ios 17.4.1

Anyone having this issue? Was enjoying how convenient Tap to pay is, but it would work again after my phone updated to ios 17.4.1.

Thanks for that @tuft2.

Ordinarily after your device software updates, it should push through any pending updates to your installed apps too. In case this hasn’t happened, could you check if the Square app itself is up to date

It might also be worth checking that Tap to Pay is still enabled within the app.

  • From the navigation bar at the bottom of your screen, tap ≡ More.
  • Tap Settings > Account.
  • Select Tap to Pay on iPhone > toggle on Tap to Pay on iPhone.
  • Verify the correct Apple ID is shown. If not, choose Use a Different Apple ID.
  • Select Agree & Continue to toggle on Tap to Pay on iPhone.

Once enabled, you should see Tap to Pay on iPhone listed under My hardware by going to ≡ More > Settings > Hardware.

Also, keep in mind that if you logged into the Point of Sale app or Appointments app using a device code, you’ll not be able to use Tap to Pay

Hope this helps, but if you're still having trouble after checking on this, just let me know.

Hey @tuft2, thanks for flagging this. Are you not seeing the option as a payment type? Or when a customer tries to use it nothing happens? If you can provide some more details I am happy to take a deeper dive into this.

Thanks for getting back. So on the top of the app, before it says tap to pay. After my phone is updated, it says failed to connect to square and status says failed too.

My iPhone 13 on ios 17.4.1 stopped working wth Tap to Pay after one of the more recent ios 17 updates. Running the lastest Square 6.42.1. After sending Square screenshots of the errors in the Square app, they asked me to create a sys diagn log to send to Apple but they haven't said when or where to upload it. Tried signing out and back into the app, deleting the app, force restaring the iphone, and forgetting the device from my Square Dashboard. Nothing has worked. A little impatient to get it back.

Did anyone find a solution?

I started using Tap to Pay on my iPhone X when it was released in Australia a couple of months ago and it was working fine.
Now it’s just stopped working saying “We encountered an error when connecting Tap to Pay. Select the button below to try again.”
After pressing the button I get the following message: “We’re unable to connect Tap to Pay. Please restart Square Point of Sale or your iPhone”.
Obviously I have done both of the above plys checked all connections but it just keeps coming up with same messages.
Square reader is working fine.

Did you ever get it to work?

Only after an iPhone backup, erase and restore. Now that it's available I find that tapping with a phone works but tapping with a card usually doesn't.
