Printer Test Page Works but Square Orders Aren’t Printing

I’m troubleshooting a printer setup where the printer itself appears to be working correctly, but there is a difference between printing a basic test page and printing actual orders through the POS system.

The printer can successfully print a test page, which makes me think the hardware, paper feed, and basic network connection are working. However, when an order is placed, the expected receipt or kitchen ticket does not always reach the printer.

I’ve already checked the printer connection and the printer assignment, but I’m wondering if there are other Square settings that are easy to overlook.

For anyone troubleshooting a similar setup, I’d suggest first separating the problem into two parts:

  1. Confirm that the printer can produce a normal test page.
  2. Check the POS printer station, order routing, printer assignment, and item/category settings separately.

A basic printer test page can also help determine whether the problem is actually printer-related before spending time changing POS configuration. I’ve found an online printer test page tool useful for quickly checking print quality, alignment, and whether the printer is producing the expected output.

Has anyone else encountered a situation where the printer passes its test page but Square orders or kitchen tickets still fail to print? I’d be interested to know which Square setting ultimately fixed it.

go to more>settings>scroll down to "orders" and search for the notifications

then you can do this as well

more>settings>hardware>look for your printer you need>edit profile>receipts "turn on"
