POS Search Not Displaying Categories, Only Items (Version 6.80)

The title of this thread has been edited by a Square Moderator from the original: "POS search not searching categories, only items"

 

My square terminal just updated to OS 5.59.0115/App 6.80 and now when I am in Checkout/Library and I search, it only brings up item results, never category results. 

Is there a setting to fix this in the new system or will I have to rename every item in my system to include its category?

Hello @Dante_CEG and thanks for reaching out to the Square Community. I noticed this is your first time posting here, so welcome! Although, I'm sorry to hear that this issue is what brought you here.

I did some looking around and found that an update for 6.81 will actually be rolling out tonight. This should occur automatically, but you can also check for the software update by going to ≡ More > Settings > Hardware. Tap General > About Terminal > Software Update. This should take care of the issue you're seeing with the search.

If you don't see the update by tomorrow morning, or, if the update does not resolve the issue, please let me know, and I'll be happy to escalate this further.

My terminal is now on 6.81 and search in the library still fails to return categories. Please advise.

I'm experiencing something similar — maybe we're describing the same thing, just different ways — on the terminal and it's made our POS virtually impossible to use. We are a business that has different prices and items in different seasons, so it was imperative that we be able to use categories to arrange these items (i.e. "summer" vs "winter) and then search within category for items only within that category. Now, on the terminal when searching even inside a category I'm instead being shown every item we have in our whole catalog that matches that search criteria; it's infuriating, it's slowing business way down, and after just spending 2 whole hours on with support they basically shrugged and said that's how it is now. @_Violet if you have any advice I'm all ears; this is a real mess.

I am getting this same problem on the square app. When I search by category it only returns items now. This make searching a large catalog impossible unless you know the items exact name/number. I can search for categories fine on the register, this in only happening in the app (Android, v6.82).

It is infuriating and has made sales so difficult. We have thousands of items, we do not know each individual name but we do know the categories.
