Issues with scanning items

Hey there,

 

We have currently purchased a Square Register and a barcode scanner.

I have set up a test item and set the SKU as the barcode, using the barcode scanner (so I know it works.

Once added, how do we scan items to add to a transaction?

When I scan the item on the keypad screen it adds 1 cent to a custom amount but hasn't sent it to the cart yet, so the price is still modifiable.

if on the library screen, nothing happens.

If I select the search bar, then scan, it enters the barcode, to which I then have to select the item to add to cart.

To scan the next item, I then need to delete my search, select the search bar again and repeat the process.

 

Am I missing something here, is there an easy way?

This way is not intuitive, is not quick nor is it easy.
Especially if they have 20 items.

Can you please assist?

This certainly does not sound like expected behaviour at all, but I'll need to confirm some more information here before I can dive in with some troubleshooting steps.


Firstly, are you able to confirm the brand and model of the barcode scanner you have paired with the Square Register?

Thank you for your reply.

This an MPOS 300 USB laser scanner.

 

Being a barcode scanner is a relatively simple device, I don't understand how compatibily could be the issue.

The scanner feeds the number into the Square Register on any field fine, just does not bring up any item.

Would love to get this solved soon so we can set this up before we set up shop on the 15th.

Hi @TheHobbyCave,

 

Our hardware engineers need to test each and every barcode scanner to make sure it works properly via Square's Point of Sale apps, so if the device isn't on the compatibility list then it's more than possible that it won't work with Square.

 

With that said, have you tried the initial setup steps here?

Looking at that guide, it says for the USB scanners to open the app on my device?

I am using a Square Register, I have also plugged in the scanner into the hub.

I get no notifications that it has been detected though.

 

If I buy the Zebra LS2208 and it doesn't work, is there an option to return?
