How do I update my square reader I have difficulty troubleshooting it receiving payments

Hey, I’ve been experiencing problems using the square reader. It keeps telling me that I need to update the point of sale and that is why I can’t accept payments.

Keep in mind that device updates are sometimes required to ensure the app continues to work as expected. You can check to see if your device requires an update with these steps.

Hey, thanks for your reply. I just deleted the app completely and downloaded it so I activated my username and account and connected the reader to the app and it still requires update point of sale.

The problem still hasn’t been solved.

is there a specific update that I can do directly from the app to the reader?

Hi @Alon, to clarify here, all updates for the Square Point of Sale app and the Square Reader are managed directly via the app itself (via Google Play or Play Store app). The steps I've linked above are the only steps required to update the app software.

Once an update has been installed on the app, you may see a message when attempting to pair your Square Reader indicating the reader itself is now updating, along with a progress bar. This process can take up to five minutes to complete and the progress bar may refresh multiple times during the update.

It's also worth confirming your current mobile device or tablet is still compatible with Square hardware. To check this, visit this page. 

Further to this, there is a troubleshooting process available online to help resolve connection issues. Should you continue to experience issues pairing your reader after working through these steps, you will need to reach out to our Support Team so they can locate your account to confirm the status of your connected hardware.
