Our Club purchased a new Square system in 2023. We have 2 main POS screens w/ cash registers, and a handheld/portable unit where I take orders and process payments at the customer's table. Our unit is not reading credit cards at all not by swipe/ tap. or inserting them. Can anyone advise me on what may fix this?

Sorry to hear that you're having difficulties with your Terminal! I use mine regularly and have not had any issues with card payments.
Could we get a little more information from you? What happens when you hit the Charge button when you're on the Review Sale screen? Do you see a black screen with an itemized list of the sale and a blue Confirm & Pay button on the bottom, or do you see a list of various tender types (Tap, Insert, or Swipe; Gift Card; Cash; etc)?
Or, is your terminal defaulting to a black screen that says "Powered By Square"? If so, that means your terminal went into connected mode, where you ring up the order on another device and send it to the terminal to complete payment. If that's the case, just swipe left to right to bring up the menu, then Settings and sign out. Log back in with your email and you'll get back to the screens like on the main POS.
