Card Surcharge added to gift card purchase !

We have just turned on the credit card surcharge functionality on Square POS. It seems to be working ie if customer paying cash the surcharge is removed from the total.

The issue is that if they pay with a Square physical gift card it is charging the additional 1.6% ! So the $50 gift card that we were already charged by square 2.5% to load is adding the surcharge when the customer redeems it. 

I would appreciate clarification.

It's my iunderstanding that the credit card surcharge is currently still in Beta. I'm not sure if you have access to the australia early access beta forum, but this post outlines the beta:

Presently those that use gift cards should be excluded from the beta due to issues (im guessing the very one you have mentioned).

It may be worth joining that forum, if you haven't already, and raising the issue there. It's my understanding that you shouldn't be using it as yet if you use gift cards.
