Can i get a refund on another platform?

We are just moving over to square from another pos processing software company.   How do we do a refund if the transaction was originally done on the other platform.

Hi @safemart.  Refunds for purchases processed on your old platform can not be processed on any other platform, including Square.  Credit card companies require that the original transaction be refunded back to the card used for the purchase, and only the original processor has the necessary information.  The easiest thing to do would be to contact your old processor and ask them how to process a refund on a merchant account that is no longer active.  They should have some kind of process for doing this as long as the transaction isn’t too old.

Otherwise, though this is NOT exactly standard procedure for card transactions, you can offer your customer a store credit in the amount of the refund.  And you could refund them in cash and just make the proper postings in your accounting software, whatever that is.  If your old processor can’t post a credit to the customer’s card, that might be the only option available to you.

I hope that helps.

@Workinger52 - If you are looking for help or insight into a specific issue, please make your own thread or reach out to our Support Team to assist! I am trying to understand what the issue is here, but there isn't any context. If you can thread a reply with full context as to what is going on, I may be able to assist.
