Add an additional item to one half of a split transaction

Add an item split purchase?

Been using square for a while now and the only issue I run in to is during a purchase 2 people want to split the purchase, say a sandwich, but one person wants to add an an additional item to their half, say a muffin. Is there any way to add an item to one half a split purchase or does it have to be in a separate transaction?

I noticed you posted about this topic a little while ago, so I've merged your most recent post here to keep everything in one place. I'm sorry we didn't get a response to you sooner 😞

You can split items in portions across multiple tickets so your customers can share the cost of the item:

1. Select the check you’d like to split and tap Actions > Split check.
2. Select your item(s) > Split item(s).
3. Select Split evenly and in how many ways or Customize split.
4. Choose the amount(s) to split by.
5. Tap Save.

After you've split the desired item, you can add additional items to the check without splitting those too. You just need to indicate which items you do want to split.

So I don't know if you can add an item after the first payment is made, but here is what I would teach the staff to do as a work around.

Ring up the order

Split the payment into 2 get value of half

cancel payment screen before payment

add muffin

split payment into 2 transactions with a custom amount

enter the value of half from previous

charge the higher remainder to the second person

@_Violet I’m not using square with checks for restaurants. Just using regular square.
