Second Location, Different Concept...

I am struggling to get answers from Square about opening our next spot. The second location is a different concept and I am wondering if opening a second Square account vs adding another location in my current makes more sense. As we will have different employees, menu and a market.

I initially added the second location and found that it just duplicated my first locations menu and staff. I deleted it but it is still showing up and now causing issues when I log in.

Hey @Seka2004 !

First question: are both businesses run under an umbrella corporation or the same EIN? If no, then a second account is the best bet for you.

If they are, then there are possibilities. Of course you can keep them separate or you can set up two locations.

I think the answer lies in how you want everything reported. If you want everything in one place (my preference), I’d just set up a second location. Logging in and out of the dashboard just to see cumulative reports is a pain to me.

The issues you’re running into with menu duplication can be bypassed. I recommend exporting the item library to excel, finding the column for your second location, and changing all the Ys to Ns. When you reupload, your new location will have no items and be ready for you to build your library again.

as for the team, that does get a little trickier. For each team member, you have to grab them the correct permissions for whichever location they’re at. You can do this from the team section of your dashboard.

Thanks Ryan! So I have it all set up but now I am realizing I cannot turn one store off and leave the other on...am I missing something?

As in complete shutdown of online ordering? Yeah..... that's definitely going to be a problem for you since it's all or nothing. From what I can tell there isn't a way to close one store and leave another open on the online side. Hey @AdamB found another feature request for you! 🙂

Your best bet (and it's a kludge to say the least) would be to change the hours on your store that you want closed. You have to enter at least some time frame, so what I do is enter one minute for one day (like 11:45-11:46pm) so that the online store will keep it closed. There definitely is going to be a confusion issue here with your customers, but it's the best I've found. Wish I could be more help!
