How do you use SMS in your Business?

Square has some great features but unfortunately not all countries can access these features.  We are a Wood Fired PIzza restaurant and food trucks and currently use Squares order notification via SMS function to notify customers of their order status and that it's ready, however we can't access SMS marketing, SMS google reviews and possibly more that I am not aware of.

What are you having to do in your business, especially those in Australia (where I am based) to be able to utilise your customers data to connect with your customers.  We currently do the following:

1. Connect our Square platform with a 3rd party provider to reach out to customers for Google reviews-this has been so incredible over the last few years that we have done this.  We are the highest rated restaurant in the area with the most reviews.

2. We export our lists to an SMS provider where we send regular weekly messages to notify our customers about our food truck locations and to stimulate orders.

Both of these function take time and cost additional money.  Keeping the customer lists updated in our SMS provider is time consuming and also means that we are having to invest hours each week/month to this task to notify new customers.

Both of these two functions are availble in square-I believe? So tell me what else do you use SMS for in your business and how do you manage this?  I'd specifically love to here from Australia Businesses and what they are doing to manage these functions or any others and if Square providing this in Australia would benefit you?

We cant even chat properly with our customers via Square SMS, twice now we have had customers engage our chat, we respond and square blocks us from talking because the customer doesnt understand they need to agree to "marketing" so i can answer the question "How much is X"

Hopefully someone can look into the workflow and ensure customers AGREE prior to initiating their first message - @isabelle for vis

Would love to do more with SMS marketing however it seems the only way to collect contacts currently is via the POS. I enabled it briefly and it required our cashier to manually leave the customer page, essentially adding one more step on our end. We are unfortunately just too busy for this, so contact collection is at a halt.

I don't see a way to collect SMS contacts on Squareup online yet, only email contacts, unfortunately - unless anyone has a workaround?

I'm not sure if it's different in the states, but we collect a lot of numbers from our customers either through Square online, or through actually asking at the POS.  Let me know if you would like more details about how we do it-using phone numbers actually helps us organise customers orders into their profile so we can see how much they have spent each month/year and see our top spenders.
