Early feedback: Ask questions about your business on Dashboard App

Hello everyone!

I'm Harsh and I work on the Dashboard App across iOS and Android as well as Square AI. I'm looking for some early feedback on our Square AI experience for the Dashboard app which allows you to ask questions about your business in everyday language. For instance you could ask:

  • What are my top selling items from last month?
  • Who are my most valuable customers?
  • How does my order volume vary by time of day/week?

I also have been exploring this quite a bit and have used it to create data output about specific item sales and specific category sales that I couldn't do in the general report. 

 

One of my favorites is the ability to quickly and easily see for each location any transactions that include a certain item and to break it down by location and then to go further and determine the top day and time of day for that item. 

 

I've also tried some forecasting as well as labor versus sales advanced questions. 

 

It all seems to be very intuitive and nice to be able to ask questions in general sentences and get out the answers that match what I'm looking for. 

 

Thanks to the Square Team for putting this together. It is definitely a very nice feature that I think will be utilized quite heavily.

When Square AI first came out, the data you'd get was questionable, if not unreliable.  We had 18 locations in our Dashboard, and I think it struggled to prioritize which locations were relevant.  

 

I ran the last three queries that you requested.  They all provided reliable data except for "Who are my most valuable customers?".  We also played around with other questions such as. For 2025, which marketing promotion yielded the highst sales?  This resulted in the response:  The marketing promotion that yielded the highest sales in 2025 was "Get 20% off the next time you visit!", with gross sales amounting to $24,774.60.  These figures are based on gross sales from January 1, 2025 to June 16, 2025 (PDT). Reported dollar values are in USD.

 

As AI becomes more readily accessible, I'd recommend a few suggestions:

 

AI Inspiration:

1) Expand the recommended questions by business segment (restaurant, e-commerce, etc.) to the top 10 questions by month/year. This will help those who may not know what to ask.

2) Expand marketing recommendations to include things like: Web conversions, recommended pricing, and demand pricing recommendations.

3) Marketing campaigns vs engagement.

This is incredible feedback, thank you so much! We are working on making the suggestions much better as well as adding more data types to Square AI. As we do so, we will absolutely explore embedding this in more experiences such as recommending pricing and marketing strategies.

@harsh-sqprod-DA I’m already in the mobile AI dashboard beta. I use to like AI to make graphs, until Alex turned me on to tables. I’ve mentioned this before. I want to ask the AI to go to a certain date range and group the email addresses I collected in that time frame and put them in a folder for me for marketing purposes.

 

Will this Dashboard AI and the Mobile AI mirror each other? I know the mobile dashboard wasn’t mirroring a couple of weeks ago.

Yes, the mobile experience in Dashboard app will have the same capabilities as the Square AI experience on web very soon. We're playing a bit of catch up on mobile currently but would love to hear any mobile specific use cases that come to mind for you. 

Separately, I am also working with the team to allow you to do exactly that with your contacts (export based on date range) -- let me circle back as soon as we have that running!

Unfortunately, we run so few card transactions, that I cannot be of any help on this.  We're service based, so our card tickets are either a few hundred dollars or several thousand dollars.  There's no in between.  And because we cannot list our products in the system, we simply charge by total dollar amount.  I'm sorry that I don't have any feedback for this.

@harsh-sqprod-DA I am noticing the AI is beginning to be able to understand more nuanced questions like (average for monday over the past 6 weeks).  I have gotten a couple of good results, and I have gotten a couple where it didn't break it down as an average by day but a total by day.

 

My most recent use case was looking at hourly sales to analyze a break even for should I move my open time for a store. The AI wasn't quite prepared for it yet, so instead I am setting up hours for reports by the hour, and flipping back and forth, very tedious, but something I think AI could handle very easily.  (Or should be able to handle very easily).

 

I am gonna ask it how to lower my processing rate and see if it can help with that!  news at 5.

And it made sense 😞

 

The machines are getting better!  Good job square, anticipating some hooligans like me to ask crazy questions was extremely smart.  Did the AI suggest to do that?

I would love to jump in to the beta on this. We are constantly asking questions and comparing data for various events, looking at hot selling items, what time of day are certain things selling better than others, etc...
