I've had mixed results with matching by item name alone. In my experience, the closer the image filename matches the item name exactly, the better the chances, but it still isn't always consistent.
If you're not using SKUs or GTINs, you may end up having to manually review some of the matches after the upload. Hopefully someone else has found a more reliable workaround, because I'd be interested to know as well.
