include tips in loyalty earning calculation

We'd like to include any tip in the loyalty point earning calculation. We're a small charity thrift shop, and use Square's "tip" feature as a "donation" to our charity. In our system, every $10 spent earns 1 point. When a customer spends $39.83 & decides to round up to get the 4th point, they're understandably disappointed the round up doesn't count toward the loyalty calculation. As a work-around, the cashier has to manually add that 4th point, and that's a challenge for our elderly volunteers who are in only a couple hours a week.

(When I necromanced this concept on the community board, another community member pointed me to this Feature Request area. I then found another post for this request at https://community.squareup.com/t5/Archived-Discussions-Read-Only/Square-Loyalty-Can-clients-earn-poi... ; the Best Practices post indicates users should "Kudos" to indicate there are other users with the same need, but the thread is so old it's marked as read only even for kudos, which leaves a new post as the best avenue available.)

This concept has been addressed by other users, so there seems to be an interest in it.  Personally, I would not want this for my soft serve business, though.  I'm supporting it with the caveat that if it is implemented it be done so as a settings OPTION in the loyalty setup and not implemented as a blanket change for all sellers.

Was my post helpful? Take a moment to mark it as a solution. Marked solutions help other sellers find possible resolutions to similar problems. Also, if you find your solution elsewhere (say, through Support), it is helpful to come back to your post and tell us about it, then mark that as a Solution. Solutions are what this Community is all about!

I would actually NOT want this feature, as it would cause a very big opportunity for abuse/misuse in a restaurant/bar business that runs Square Loyalty.

For example, I currently have about 3000 customers in my loyalty program.   In many cases, the customers are leaving tips of $20, $30, $40 and more, why should I give them Loyalty rewards on money that money I (the business) am not making?  I don't want to do that.

Now, with that being said, I think the better solution would be to have a "round up for charity" feature that other POS systems have.  There are a couple industry charities that I would like to support, but can't because of the lack of this functionality in the Square system.  I would support that (and already have in other threads).

Sorry to rain on your parade here Lyn_tru, but that's my take on this.

No offense taken, @SVLFever - different use cases. The lack of a round up feature is pushing us to (mis)use the tip feature.
