Tax Exempt Report Filter

Tax Exempt Report Filter

I would like to request that the ability to FILTER BY include the ability to select either "taxed" or "tax exempt" from the list of availble options.   This would allow the user to be able to see category/item sales by tax status, as well as the ability to create a "custom report" to see "non taxable sales".

Instinctively, I thought that option might be available here -

For the use case - many businesses sell items that are "tax exempt" to certain groups/customers, such as schools and churches.  Having the ability to view a report that indicates which items were taxed/not taxed would be beneficial during an audit.

Currently, the only way I can think of doing this is to export all of the transactions (I had 32423 in January 2025) for the month, and then sort by taxed or non-taxed.   Then, these transactions need combined so I can see if it was food or merchandise that was tax exempt, which is extremly time consuming.

All Square would need to do is have the Filter if Tax = $0.00 for the item in the Transaction.  Not every Sale is fully Tax Exempt.  For instance we sell clothing, which is not taxed.  The sale may also include taxable items so the over all Sales tax would not = $0.00.  But this would help business see if Items are being sold without tax when they should have included the tax.  A quick report like this in Square would be helpful instead of just one Tax report that shows Gross Sales, Taxable Sales and Non Taxable sales.  What items were in the non taxable sales, what Quantity, Who bought these etc.   Yes I know I can export this and then use Spreedsheets to figure this out, but then why does Square have filters on reports that are not as useful to business?

I can see the need for a report like this, @SVLFever. It's been updated to "Open" status. This period allows other sellers to add their use cases, strengthening your proposal and demonstrating its demand. We'll revisit leading requests in the "Open for Votes" status for the product team's consideration.

To other Sellers, please “kudo” this post and comment on how this feature would aid your business to underline its significance.

I second this, I've actually been wondering how I'm going to handle this at for taxes.  Currently we're looking at sorting through orders via API to grab the data we need.  Either way its going to be a difficult year to get these numbers!

In our previous POS, Tax Exempt would actually import at a product variance so it could be pointed to a different GL in the accounting interface.

Maybe a Filter to choose a Tax applied.  So businesses that have a Normal sales Tax, a Lower rate sales tax on clothing, or Higher taxes on luxury items for example.  Yes I know I can set items tax rates when creating the item, but might be nice to see these as a filter.

For example:

  • Normal sales tax of 6%
  • Clothing Sales Tax of 3%
  • Luxury Sales Tax of 9%
  • No sales Tax or 0% sales tax

These could be applied like when we filter by Category for example something silmilar but based off of the taxes.

Would love to see this filter, we have different VAT levels here in the UK, just for our business we have three, no tax, zero tax and 20% tax.

It would also be nice to see on the items library overview page where you select the '+' to show visible/hidden fields a means to display the items tax rate here so we can double check we have assigned tax to the item and that the rate we have assigned is correct. Otherwise we have to do via an excel item library download export or individually at the item level which is too slow.

Also a bulk edit on the tax too would be good for larger item libraries.
